TULARE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT COMMUNICATIONS CENTER
(559) 733-6211 2404 W. BURREL ST.  VISALIA, CA 93291
IN AN EMERGENCY, DIAL  9-1-1

WHO DO I GET WHEN I CALL 9-1-1?

    1. Land-line phones (not cell phones)

If you call from the unincorporated areas of Tulare County,  9-1-1 is
answered by the Tulare County Sheriff's Office, in Visalia.  We
dispatch Sheriff's Deputies for the entire county.  The Sub-Stations do
not answer 9-1-1.  If you call 9-1-1 from any phone in Sequoia / Kings
Canyon National Park, your call is answered by the National Park
    Service dispatch center.

If you call from inside the city limits of Dinuba, Visalia, Tulare, or
Porterville,  the Police Department in each city answers 9-1-1.

If you call from inside the city limits of Woodlake, Exeter, Farmersville,
or Lindsay, your call will be answered either by the Police Department
for your city, or the Tulare County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center.
The Sheriff's Office dispatches for these cities after hours, weekends,
and some holidays.  9-1-1,  Police, and Fire non-emergency lines are
switched to the Sheriff's Office during the times we are dispatching for
    these cities.

    2. Cell phones

Most cellular 9-1-1 calls in California are routed to the California
Highway Patrol.  CHP dispatchers must determine where you are, and
transfer you to the correct agency.  It is VERY important that you
know where you are when you call 9-1-1 from a cell phone!  THERE IS
NO LOCATION INFORMATION (AS YET) WHEN YOU CALL
9-1-1 FROM A CELL PHONE IN TULARE COUNTY!  It is very helpful if you can quickly
tell the CHP dispatcher what your emergency is, where you are, and
what agency you need.  If you don't know the correct agency, tell the
CHP dispatcher where you are, and what the problem is.  The
dispatcher will then transfer you to the correct agency.

If you dial 9-1-1 from your cell phone, and nobody answers, it is
probably because CHP dispatchers are receiving multiple calls from
other cell phone users regarding the same incident.  Please stay on the
line until a dispatcher can answer.  Calls are answered in the order they
are received, hanging up and redialing puts you at the end of the list!
