TULARE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT COMMUNICATIONS CENTER |
| (559) 733-6211 | 2404 W. BURREL ST. VISALIA, CA 93291 |
| IN AN EMERGENCY, DIAL 9-1-1 |
If you or someone in your home accidentally gets 9-1-1, please don't hang up! Stay on the line, and tell the dispatcher that it was a misdial. If we cannot verify that the call was an accident, we will send a Sheriff's Deputy or Police Officer to check. There is never a charge for a 9-1-1 call, you will not be charged for an accidental call to 9-1-1.
If you receive a call from the 9-1-1 dispatcher saying there was a 9-1-1 call from your phone, and someone hung up, please be sure there is no one else in the house that might have been trying to call 9-1-1 for help! If everything is OK, tell the dispatcher it must have been a mistake. Under some circumstances, a Deputy Sheriff or a Police Officer may be sent to verify that everything is OK.
Some cordless phones have been known to automatically dial 9-1-1 when their batteries are low. If you are sure no-one in your residence was using the phone, but you received a call from us stating we received a 9-1-1 call from your number, please check any cordless phones you have, and be sure they do not have 9-1-1 in one of the memory positions.
Also, during storms, water may get into the lines at your home. This sometimes causes a 'glitch' that the phone company system sees as a possible attempt to dial 9-1-1, and may send your information to the 9-1-1 center. We will attempt to verify whether or not there is an actual emergency.
